Rutgers football opened its season with an impressive 48-0 win over North Carolina Central.

Most of the starters were out of the game by the third quarter, which gave coach Greg Schiano opportunity to get some of the younger guys in.

Egg Harbor Township graduate Tejay Johnson was one of those players. Johnson, who recently moved from wide receiver to defensive back, got into the game in the fourth quarter and recorded an assisted tackle.

These are invaluable moments for young players such as Johnson, who is a true freshman. It's an opportunity for him to get used to the speed of the college game, especially after taking a year off so he could get his SAT score up and become eligible for college.

"Tejay got in tonight after moving there a week ago," Schiano said. "He's going to be a really good defensive back."
