The Wildwood Catholic High School boys basketball team jumped to an early lead and then staved off a Woodbury rally Friday night.

The Crusaders won the Boardwalk Basketball Classic showcase game 49-37 at Wildwoods Convention Center. Wildwood Catholic (2-1) is No. 8 in The Press Elite 11.

The Crusaders led 10-1 after the first quarter and 21-4 at halftime. But Woodbury cut the Wildwood  Catholic lead to 29-24 with 6 minutes, 54 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders quickly regained control with a 13-2 run that put Wildwood Catholic up 42-26 with 4:55 left in the game.

Crusaders forward Ed McWade (16 points, eight rebounds) began the run with a conventional 3-point play off an inbounds pass from George Cook (four assists). Forward Jordan Robertson (19 points and nine rebounds) sank a 3-poiner and scored off an offensive rebound during the run. Kevin McWade contributed a steal and a layup.
