ATLANTIC CITY - City Council cut Mayor Lorenzo Langford proposed budget by $8 million Wednesday when the panel introduced a $211 million spending plan.

The budget, if approved in its current form, would raise the city's tax rate by about 5 cents per $100 of assessed property and boost the overall costs by almost $8 million from last year's $203 million budget.

City Council President William "Speedy" Marsh commended council members for their work on the budget, but added "your job isn't over yet."

"We'll take it from here and we have more work to do," Marsh said.

The budget introduced Wednesday anticipates $23.3 million in revenue, down from last year's $26.8 million.
