Allied Building Products provides roofing, siding, windows and doors. We sell exterior building products, anything exterior.
We're in the Urban Enterprise Zone and charge 3 1/2 percent sales tax.We sell all of the major brands, including CertainTeed, Pella windows, GAF roofing and James Hardie cement siding.
After Hurricane Sandy, Allied Building Products jumped into action to help provide the roofing material that would be needed. Branch manager Terry Brennan and I were here in October operating in an empty warehouse with a folding table and a computer, and Terry took care of all the orders.
We helped out a lot of people. Even though we're a large corporation, I'm local and felt compelled to get out and help. The big supply houses in the area couldn't handle all of the orders. We felt like we made a difference.
So now we've got a fully stocked warehouse, people staffing the counter, trucks delivering. We were pulling material from upstate, but now we've got it.
We're backed by a big company. Allied Building Products employs 3,100 at 180 branches nationwide.
The company began in 1950 in Jersey City (Hudson County). It always has sold residential and commercial building products.
Entry: The farthest south Allied Building Products had been was Toms River. They typically grow by acquisition. This is Allied's first center started from scratch in an existing warehouse, which is a big dea. We've got 26,000 square feet of warehouse.
The future: On Friday, we'll hold our grand opening. It's open to the public. We'll have giveaways. We're a contractor center, and we also do retail. Homeowners are welcome here.
