The U.S. Public Interest Research Group has put out a list of potentially dangerous toys this holiday season.
As part of its 24th annual "Trouble in Toyland" report, the consumer research group selected toys that it says poses choking hazards, contain lead and other toxic chemicals or are "excessively loud."
By logging on to www.toysafety.mobi, visitors also can report an unsafe toy to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC.
"But there's no magic wand to fix the CPSC, and making products safer won't happen overnight," said Rebecca Alper, of New Jersey's Public Interest Research Group. "Restoring consumer confidence in the products we buy will take continued hard work on the part of the CPSC and responsible retailers and manufacturers."
The Toy Industry Association said that toys must conform to strict federal safety standards and testing.
"We are continuously reviewing and updating toy safety standards ranging from small parts, acoustics, chemicals used in the manufacture of toys and other issues that will further enhance the safety of toys," the association said in a statement.
