The union representing cashiers and clerks at 28 Acme locations in southern New Jersey voted Wednesday to ratify a new contract.
The two sides last month came to an agreement after members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1360 have been without a contract since April and threatened to walk off the job in the fall.
"We want to thank our associates for ratifying the contract today. We are proud that this contract will provide them with good wages, comprehensive healthcare benefits, and more secure pensions, while helping us compete in the marketplace," Acme's parent company, Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc., said in a statement late Wednesday.
The contract affects about 2,400 members of Camden County-based Local 1360, some of whom work at the Upper Deerfield Township store, just outside of Bridgeton, as well as at locations in Burlington, Salem, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties.
