Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 152 have voted overwhelmingly to approve a new four-year contract with Acme supermarkets, union officials said.
The contract includes across-the-board wage increases, an increase in pension contributions by the employer totaling 36 percent over four years and a protection of health benefits.
About 1,880 meat cutters, produce workers and other back-end Acme employees had the opportunity to vote Wednesday. More than 98 percent who voted agreed to the contract's terms, said union President Brian String.
Members of the Hammonton-based Local 152, who work at stores in southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, had been without a new contract since May. The union also is negotiating a contract for employees of Super Fresh locations in Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties.
