HARRISBURG, Pa. - Revenue at Pennsylvania's nine slot parlors jumped 32 percent in October, once again showing they are siphoning away business from the Atlantic City casinos.
Slot revenue came in at $177.1 million for the month, compared to $134.2 million for the same period last year, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported.
October's results were helped by the grand opening of the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem in May and the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh in August. In October 2008, there were seven slot parlors open.
Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack led the pack in October, with nearly $29.6 million in revenue. Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack, the Meadows Racetrack and Casino and Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse all posted more than $20 million in revenue.
Pennsylvania is the main rival for Atlantic City's 11 casino hotels. Atlantic City's revenue has been in a steady decline while Pennsylvania's has been tracking upward.
The New Jersey Casino Control Commission will report Atlantic City's revenue for October next Tuesday.
