NEW YORK - Casino owner Penn National Gaming Inc. is teaming up with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons for a community relations program that would be part of its proposed operation of a new slots parlor at Aqueduct Race Track.
Penn is vying with other competitors for a 30-year contract to oversee 4,500 video slot machines when Aqueduct is turned into New York's newest racetrack casino. No timetable for selecting the operator has been announced yet by New York officials.
Penn's proposal includes an immediate cash payment of $250 million to the state. In addition, the company announced today that it would partner with Simmons' Rush Communications for community relations, public affairs and charitable donations related to the project.
Penn also announced it has worked out the framework for a labor agreement with the New York Hotel & Motel Trades Council for union participation at the slots parlor.
