AtlantiCare is still in talks with Pennsylvania-based Geisinger Health System about a partnership between the major health-care providers.
"AtlantiCare and Geisinger are working on a definitive agreement," AtlantiCare spokeswoman Jennifer Tornetta said in an email on Friday.
The providers announced in November a partnership to develop a blueprint for an affiliation between them, but did not indicate what that could entail.
Officials at the time cited evolutions stemming from the Affordable Care Act, as health-care reform puts greater emphasis on cost-effective care in appropriate medical settings.
In November, AtlantiCare said it expected to complete an affiliation sometime in 2014.
AtlantiCare is the region's largest health system with more than 5,000 employees and hospitals in Atlantic City and Galloway Township.
Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger, located predominantly in central and northeastern Pennsylvania, has seven hospital campuses and more than 20,000 employees.
