WebiMax, an online marketing company founded by Kenneth Wisnefski, of Ocean City, is the highest ranking New Jersey firm on Inc. Magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the U.S.

With a facility in Marmora, Upper Township, and its headquarters in Mount Laurel, WebiMax ranked 37th on the nationwide list, with a more than 50-fold increase in revenues in three years.

The timing of this year’s Inc. 5000, which is based on three-year growth, was perfect for WebiMax, which Wisnefski founded in 2008.

In that year, the company — whose main service is search-engine optimization — had revenues of just $123,000, Inc. said. In 2011, revenues had soared to $7.1 million.

In interviews last year with The Press of Atlantic City, Wisnefski said WebiMax had 125 employees. By the start of this year, 13 more had been added.

Inc. also ranked the company seventh in growth for 2012 in the advertising and marketing industry.

The magazine described the WebiMax business model as “an online marketing services firm offering search engine optimization, search engine marketing, paid search, social media marketing, Web design and development, e-commerce, reputation management and analytics reporting.”

Search-engine optimization involves creating an online presence for a business that takes advantage of search engine algorithms to ensure its products or services appear high in consumer searches.

Wisnefski, an entrepreneur in his early 40s who has lived in the area with his wife and three children since 2000, said WebiMax also has developed proprietary technology for reporting the results of search-engine optimization to clients.

The company’s growth going forward likely will be more modest, even if only because WebiMax will no longer be growing from a tiny base as a startup.

For example, revenue growth already had slowed to a merely outstanding 42 percent from $5 million in 2010.

Wisnefski also has said there’s an advantage to keeping the company, or at least its units in particular geographic areas, from getting too big. It makes it easier to offer clients exclusive services in their market segment. As Wisnefski has noted, you can’t get two businesses the No. 1 placement in search results in the same category.

The rush by businesses to have an online presence is bound to slow as it becomes the norm rather than the exception. That rush has been accompanied by a dramatic increase in the number of firms and people helping businesses with their online marketing, including search optimization. Competition that was mild has become intense.

In late 2010, WebiMax was rated No. 1 in the nation by, a third-party company that evaluates search engine optimization firms.

In the current ratings by, WebiMax is not in the Top 100.

Email fraud

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. warned Thursday that two fraudulent emails claiming to be from the FDIC are circulating.

One claims to be an “FDIC Claimant Verification” form to seek a benefit under investor protection and bankruptcy reform laws.

The second claims an “ACH transaction” delivery has failed and asks the recipient to download an update via a link in the email.

“Recipients should consider these emails as an attempt to steal money or obtain personal information,” said the FDIC, which insures consumer bank deposits.

The agency reminded the public that “the FDIC does not send unsolicited emails to consumers or business account holders.”
