I taught a class in hair coloring at Jonell’s Weaving Salon in Egg Harbor Township and we started discussing special hair care for cancer patients.

Six years ago, I took a class in Miami to learn how to design and make custom cranial hair prostheses for women who have lost their hair.

Ricardo Jones, co-owner of Jonell’s, asked if I would assist with a presentation for Gilda’s Club and I thought that would be great. I had a girlfriend who died of cancer, and while she was alive I helped her, so this is kind of a personal thing with me.

We put together a program (“Ask the Hair Weaving Experts”) for individuals or their caregivers, one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gilda’s Club satellite office (2500 English Creek Ave., Building 400, second Floor) in Egg Harbor Township.

A senior stylist from Jonell’s, which is sponsoring the program, will demonstrate how to create the hairstyle.

I’m going to do a presentation on the steps we take, from having the molds made to creating the prosthesis.

(Reservations for lunch and the program are suggested by contacting jane.abbott@atlanticare.org or at 609-407-4788.)

Once Jonell’s begins to receive clients for the prostheses, I’ll be collaborating on those as well.

In my work, I also teach the use of Keratin Complex distributed by DePasquale Salon Systems. I’ll go over the entire line, tell them why it’s unique and show them how to use it properly so they get the best results.

With Motives Cosmetics, we’ve created a team of makeup artists. We call ourselves Glam Squad-A.C. and we’re doing Atlantic City Fashion Week in about three weeks.

Entry: My mom was a cosmetologist and we’ve had salons in Buena, Atlantic City and Hammonton.

Career goals: I’m starting to work on photo shoots up in New York City and taking more training in color in Miami. My goal is to educate in the field, not the classroom.

About me: I like to spend time with my family and my puppies. I’m a family-oriented person, and I love the beach.

Been working with the Press for about 27 years.
