Cape Bank is a community bank — a full-service commercial and residential bank, with lending, business banking, mobile and Internet banking, the whole e-banking suite.

I work in residential lending. I manage the sales team of five as well as originate residential loans myself.

I interview borrowers, determine what’s the best loan for them and document that they qualify for that loan.

Our sales staff is out in the community as well, building relationships with real estate agents and attorneys and accountants. We build networks, and typically referrals come from there.

The majority of managing the sales team is coaching them, guiding them, providing support when they’re out there meeting folks, letting their contacts know what the bank does and how we can help them.

From an underwriting standpoint, I have to be there as a source for them. Today, the underwriting rules are extensive, so they need to bounce scenarios off me. People don’t fall into a familiar box all of the time.

Entry: I started in banking in my freshman year of college as a teller. I moved up within that bank to be branch manager, but that didn’t motivate me. A manager showed me the lending component, and I just loved it. It came very naturally to me.

I recently received the 5-star Mortgage Professional award. They survey about 40,000 households that purchased property to see if customers would recommend the professionals involved. Then they check your licensing, compliance and volume of originations. The award goes to the top 1 percent in the state.

The biggest challenge currently is regulatory requirements. I understand the intent to deter what occurred in the past, but sometimes they don’t seem to understand what works in practice and people get frustrated.

About me: I’m a huge Frank Sinatra fan, and I like old movies and antiques. People say I’m an old soul. I like to golf, and like the beach, family and friends. I’m a positive person and have no time for negativity.
