Beckson wins service award

Denise Beckson of Morey’s Piers in Wildwood has earned the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Meritorious Service Award.

Beckson has worked for Morey’s Piers seasonally since 1986 and full time since 1999, currently as director of waterpark operations and human resources.

Morey named chairman of global amusement park association

Will Morey, president and CEO of Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, has been named chairman of the board for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, a worldwide trade association.

Morey will lead IAAPA for the next year, implementing the association’s strategic plan and representing the industry in appearances around the world.

Waterpark group honors Ebner

Morey’s Piers employee Kevin Ebner, the Wildwood company’s aquatic facility manager, has received the World Waterpark Association’s “Emerging Leader — Employee of the Season Award.” The World Waterpark Association represents more than 1,000 park and supplier members in 42 countries.

Ocean City chamber hands out awards

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce has given its 2012 Citizen of the Year, renaming it Citizen of the Decade, to Ocean City publicist Mark Soifer.

Soifer has been promoting Ocean City for more than 40 years and has created such events as the Miss Crustacean Pageant and Weird Week.

The Business Renovation/Improvement Award was given to Stainton’s and Peace, Love and Yogurt.

Dunkin’ Donuts and Yogurtland received the Outstanding Landscaping/Signage Award.

Sunoco 34th Street and the Route 52 Causeway were given the Business New Construction Award.

Ocean City Parasail/Pirate Voyages and Yianni’s on the Boardwalk were honored with Outstanding Business Awards.

The Outstanding New Business Award was given to Heritage Surf Shop and Yoasis.

Cricket Box was given Outstanding Service to the Community Award.

This year’s Outstanding Civic, Community, Nonprofit Organization Award went to the Ocean City Fire Department and the Ocean City Halloween Parade.

Tackle Direct received the Outstanding Use of Technology honor.

The Environmentally Friendly Award went to Jilly’s.
