Verizon adds LTE
Verizon Wireless has activated new 4G LTE high-speed wireless data coverage in Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean and Burlington counties. Verizon said Egg Harbor Township and Eldora, Dennis Township, are among areas getting download speeds as much as 10 times faster than 3G networks.
Tanning bed risk
Indoor tanning beds would carry new warnings about the risk of cancer and be subject to more stringent federal oversight, under a proposal by the Food and Drug Administration. The government action is aimed at curbing cases of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
Massachussets gambling site
The area of Worcester, Mass., where developers have proposed building a slots parlor has existing traffic and crime problems that make unsuitable for the project, the city's police chief wrote in a report to the city manager. Prostitution, drug dealing and pan-handling are already problems in the neighborhood of the the vacant 14-acre Wyman-Gordon industrial property.
Adobe Systems Inc. said it will not release new versions of its Creative Suite software package. Instead, the maker of Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat is shifting focus to Creative Cloud, which makes its software available through a monthly subscription that starts at $50 for an individual if they sign up for at least a year.
Plane repair faulted
The government's oversight of hundreds of domestic and overseas repair stations that service U.S. airliners is ineffective and doesn't target the factors most likely to present safety risks, the Department of Transportation's inspector general office said. The FAA's oversight lacks the rigor needed to identify safety deficiencies and verify that problems are corrected once identified.
The head of fast-growing Qatar Airways says it plans to add Philadelphia to its routes next year as part of alliances with American Airlines and other U.S.-based carriers. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker told reporters Monday that service would begin in March to Philadelphia, the carrier's fifth American nonstop destination.
Trump in Dubai
Donald Trump plans to extend his golfing empire to the Middle East, opening a course in the desert outskirts of Dubai in the latest sign the emirate's crisis-hit property market is recovering. The Trump International Golf Club will be the centerpiece of a 28 million foot project being developed by DAMAC Properties.
Oil up, gas down
The price of oil edged higher to $96.16 per barrel as tension increased between Syria and Israel. At the pump, the average price for a gallon of gas remained at $3.52, down 9 cents from a month ago.
Bank of America led a rally in big-bank stocks in mostly quiet trading. Stock indexes ended little changed following a record-setting run last week.
BMW is recalling 45,500 3 Series sedans in the U.S. and Canada because their passenger air bags may not inflate properly. The recall affects 3 Series from the 2002 and 2003 model years.
New York's attorney general accused Wells Fargo and Bank of America of violating the terms of last year's national mortgage settlement by failing to process hundreds of refinancing requests promptly. Bank of America spokesman Richard Simon said through March it provided mortgage relief for more than 10,000 New York homeowners totaling more than $1 billion.
