A prominent Cumberland County business group is turning to a former political leader to be its new executive director.

Former Cumberland County Freeholder Director Louis Magazzu will head the CEO Group, an organization of more than 50 private-sector employers representing more than 20,000 workers.

Magazzu replaces Francis Reilly, who died in February.

“Lou Magazzu is an attorney and businessman and an accomplished leader,” CEO President Debbie Wallace said.

“Lou has demonstrated the leadership and talent needed to succeed Fran Reilly and continue Fran’s vision for the CEO Group into the future,” she said.

Magazzu said he wants to “build upon the legacy (Reilly) and the CEO Group has created.”

“I am looking forward to this new responsibility,” he said.

Magazzu was a freeholder from 1998 to 2011. He served as the board’s chairman in 2001 and from 2008 through 2010.

He also was chairman of the county Democratic organization from 2001 to 2010.

Magazzu currently runs a law office in Buena, Atlantic County, and an energy consulting business in Berlin Township, Camden County.
