EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - The Forman Mills store, which has been going out of business awhile in Cardiff Power Center here, might close by the end of the month, store personnel are telling shoppers.
A sign that the actual closing is near will be when the level of additional discount reaches 50 percent, store workers are saying. At that point, the store likely will close its doors within two weeks.
The 55,000-square-foot store filled with deeply discounted clothing now is taking another 20 percent off total purchases.
There are 29 Forman Mills Clothing Factory Warehouses in a broad triangular region from New York to Washington, D.C., and west to Chicago and Detroit. A longtime store in Vineland continues business as usual there.
The Pennsauken-based chain's first store opened in 1985 in Philadelphia. The Egg Harbor Township store opened in 2006.
Foreman Mills follows a long line of stores that have left the Cardiff Power Center, including Rickels Home Center, Bradlees department store, PathMark supermarket and Office Depot. The shopping center is now largely empty.
