A specialty home décor and gifts retailer new to the area, Kirkland’s, will celebrate the grand opening of its store at Wrangleboro Consumer Square in Mays Landing on Saturday and Sunday.

Kirkland’s Inc., founded in 1966, originally focused on the Southeast but now operates 324 stores in 35 states.

The company’s stores offer a broad selection of merchandise, including framed art, mirrors, candles, lamps, picture frames, accent rugs, garden accessories and artificial floral products. The stores also sell gifts and seasonal merchandise.

During the grand opening, interior designer Lisa Benninger, of Designworks Interiors LLC in Linwood, will provide design tips and consult on the use of Kirkland’s items in the home from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Kirkland’s said customers are encouraged to bring photos of rooms or floor plans of spaces they are decorating for a free, personalized design consultation with Benninger.

Benninger said she has been in the interior design business more than a decade and opened Designworks in 2004.

She offers full design services for home and business, including floor coverings, window treatments and accessorizing. She said one specialty is wall color selection, a major concern when rooms are designed or updated.

“I do some online color consulting for Benjamin Moore & Co. I’m one of their color experts online,” Benninger said.

She recently previewed the merchandise at Kirkland’s and found lots of accessories and accent furniture pieces.

“There’s a lot of reasonably priced and fun stuff,” she said. “I’m happy they came to the area because we really need a few more choices.”

The new Mays Landing location will employ 15 to 18 people.

The grand-opening will last from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Kirkland’s will hold a drawing for two $50 gift cards, and shoppers will receive a free sachet with a purchase while supplies last. Last year the company, publicly traded on the NASDAQ exchange, reported $430 million in revenue.
