Studio 21 Beauty Bar combines two semi-independent businesses now: the Hair Lounge and the Brow Bar.

Marla Haines acquired the Hair Lounge from Jeanine Whittaker, who started the salon in 2009 and now focuses on the Brow Bar. Haines said the Hair Lounge does extension work, coloring, haircuts, styling, up-dos and also nails.

“We do a lot of Ombre hair coloring, which is darker at the root and fades into a light color at the end. That’s a very big trend, and you’re seeing it ... on celebrities.”

Haines said loosely textured hair waves are popular right now, “not like a structured, tailored look, but a bit of a messier style. It’s very beachy, like tousled waves.” She said the Hair Lounge carries KMS and Goldwell hair products, and uses Mythic Oil by L’oreal for smoothing.

Haines said she and Dorothy Morette, of Sicklerville, do hair, while Joliene Sacco, of Hammonton, does nails. Nail services include glitter toes that last four to six weeks, gel manicures and Minx nails with artwork. She said Hair Lounge also does a lot of bridal parties. Whittaker’s Brow Bar specializes in eyebrow shaping.

“A perfect eyebrow depends on the bone structure of face,” she said. “We are an exclusive representative for Anastasia Beverly Hills.”

Besides that famous salon’s brow pencils, liners, powders and pomades, Brow Bar uses its technique, a three-point system based on bone structure for brow shaping, she said. Whittaker said representatives from Anastasia checked out her salon and, liking what they saw, even offered a partnership. She chose to remain independent.

“In three years, I have 1,040 brow clients I see regularly,” she said.

She said she and a cousin who recently joined the staff, Desiree Bruno, of Margate, also do makeup and airbrush makeup. Haines said she has worked in salons since age 17, and spent more than a decade at area salons including one in the Borgata.
