Cellular Sales, a large national Verizon wireless retailer, has opened a new store in Somers Point.

Buddy Lucas, regional director at Cellular Sales, said it is the company’s first push into the area and it plans further expansion in New Jersey. Among the company’s 565 stores are ones in Lacey Township to the north and Turnersville, Gloucester County, to the west.

Lucas said the chain’s customers get a representative throughout their contract who follows up with them and takes care of future needs, so they don’t have to go back through customer service.

“Certainly there are a lot of places customers can get Verizon products and services, so we separate ourselves from the competition by creating a more personal, consultative service,” he said.

Lucas said Cellular Sales has everything Verizon has to offer, from basic mobile phones to smartphones, tablets and the latest technology.

“One of the new hot devices we’ve been selling a lot is Home Phone Connect, which eliminates the land line but lets you keep your home number and a cordless phone,” he said. The device works just like a wireless router and costs $19.99 a month.

Home Phone Connect is especially appealing to people with two residences, who can take the service from one home to another “rather than having two phone bills and two phone numbers,” Lucas said.

He said that with the many vacation homes at the shore, he expects considerable demand for the transportable home phone service at the new Somers Point store.

Another popular item is the mobile hot spot, which gives people a portable WiFi connection for multiple devices and works well with the Home Phone Connect, he said.

Cellular Sales was founded in Knoxville, Tenn., 19 years ago and has been named by Inc. magazine one of the nation’s fastest growing privately owned retailers for five years running.

The company has more than 4,000 employees, including 10 at the new store, which is among six retail locations in New Jersey.
