Business: So Precious in His Sight Children’s and Maternity Consignment
Location: 244 Philadelphia Ave., Egg Harbor City
Owner: Kristy Bates, 31, of Egg Harbor City
So Precious in His Sight Children’s and Maternity Consignment gives people the opportunity to make back some money on their children’s gently used items. We do carry some things with the tag still on them, but it’s mostly second-hand.
We have clothing in sizes from newborn to 20 for all seasons, maternity clothing, baby equipment and accessories, shoes, toys and games, DVDs and furniture. We take consignments by appointment, and people can look at our website, www.sopreciousinhissight.com, for information on how to consign.
Our main goal when we started nearly two years ago was to give people the feeling they’re shopping in a regular department store rather than shopping for second-hand. At our first location across the street, we had to use the sidewalk because we didn’t have the room in the store. This store has three times the space, and we’ve easily filled it up.
We wanted to stay in Egg Harbor City because there is a lot happening here and lots of potential for growth. We have some destination businesses that people are coming to see, and I think new things will be popping up. We’re one of the last places that still feels like a small town.
We carry lots of items hand-made by local moms for shower gifts and stuff like that. We use Facebook a lot, and we communicate on there about deals, sales, items customers are looking for and events coming up.
Entry: We didn’t know whom to give the clothes our four sons outgrew, and we realized the area needed a good consignment shop for children’s clothes.
The future: We’ve started doing Mom’s Night Out late shopping hours. We’re usually open 10 to 5 weekdays and 9 to 3 Saturdays, but on these nights we stay open until 9 p.m. for moms who can’t get out during the day. The next ones are today and Feb. 11.
Another event that we just planned is our first story time, which will be at 10:30 a.m. March 15. We’ll do a story, craft and snack with the kids while moms have a chance to shop. Moms should call and let us know if they’re coming. And we’re going to have a back-to-school carnival in August.
