An expert from South Jersey Gas will speak to the Greater Hammonton Chamber of Commerce at its second Business Education Series Today event at Stockton College's Kramer Hall in the city.

Michele Haber, a sales representative for S.J. Gas, will discuss the basics of switching a residence or business to natural gas, walking the chamber members and guests through the entire conversion process.

A graduate of Rowan University, Haber will also review cash incentives currently being offered to those interested in upgrading their heating equipment.

"Saving energy and saving money is an integral part of a good business plan, so we felt that this presentation would be greatly beneficial," Hammonton Chamber President Kelly Raso said in a statement.

Island shopping

Dozens of stores are getting together for an event that's unusual for its location and timing - Avalon in late winter.

The 7th Annual Shop-A-Holics Weekend will present discounted merchandise from 30 area stores at the Whitebrier restaurant and the Princeton Bar & Grill in Avalon from March 7 to 9.

Hosted by the 7 Mile Business Community Association, the event will benefit the nonprofit Family Promise of Cape May County, which provides support to homeless families in the county.

Shoppers are encouraged to pay a $5 cover for Family Promise at the Friday evening session with cocktails and music, and bring cleaning products for homeless families (or make a donation) at the Saturday and Sunday sessions.
