The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 9th annual State of the Chamber, its premier membership event, early in the New Year.

The Sea Oaks Golf Club in Little Egg Harbor will host the event, which includes a full breakfast with omelet station, on Jan. 8.

The keynote speaker will be Joel Naroff, president of Naroff Economic Advisors and two-time winner of the National Association for Business Economics Outlook Award for most accurate economic forecast.

Naroff advises companies from a wide range of industries on the risks and opportunities presented by economic trends.

He will talk about the prospects for 2013 and what the business community can expect in the post-Hurricane Sandy period.

Speakers at the State of the Chamber also will include Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove with updates from the state; Ken McGill, managing director of Rockport Analytics, speaking on the recent LBI Region Tourism Economic Study and how those numbers will affect the rebuilding efforts within our community; and Kelly Schult, vice president of communications and public relations of New Orleans Convention and Visitor Bureau, presenting best practices for New Orleans post Katrina crisis and recovery strategies.

Energy efficiency

The next luncheon meeting of the Greater Millville Chamber of Commerce will feature Gary Finger, the ombudsman for the state Board of Public Utilities’ Division of Economic Development & Energy Policy.

Finger describes his work as β€œto use the diverse skills from my current experience in the energy sector of government relations in addition to my background in manufacturing, business development and government leadership to work with businesses and government agencies to bring awareness of energy efficiency programs to their attention, which will yield more efficient energy usage and lower costs.”
