Business: Anchor Arts
Location: 6516 Ventnor Ave., Ventnor
Owner: Brittany Czekai, 29, of Ventnor
Anchor Arts during the day has kids' arts and crafts. You don't need to make an appointment. Kids can just show up and choose between the activities that we have, ranging in price from $5 to $15.
The kids do a lot of canvas paintings. I also have wooden objects for them to paint, as well as flower pots. They can also make necklaces, bracelets and earrings from beads, but most of the crafts involve painting.
Then at night we have adult painting classes. People can bring their own food and drink. And we walk them through step by step, how to paint the "painting of the night." My cousin, Meghan O'Connor, instructs some of the adult painting classes.
There's always a painting of the night and after two hours, people leave with their finished painting. That's $35 per person and we supply everything they need - paint, brushes, apron, canvases and instruction.
We've done a painting of the Ventnor beach lifeguard stand and one of Lucy the Elephant.
We do a lot of beach scenes and landscapes. We might do a fish or Marilyn Monroe's face, or our version of a famous painting such as "Starry Night" or "The Scream." We seldom do a still life.
We also are available for private-party events or kids' birthday parties. We also can have a girls' night out and recently had a bachelorette party.
We also sell local artwork and handmade items from artists in the area, such as jewelry, photography and paintings.
My website - www.anchorartsstudio.com -has a calendar of adult classes where you can see which painting we're doing on a given night, as well as photos from the classes and hours.
Entry: I went to Temple University to art school for two years and then transferred to Farleigh Dickenson University, earning my education degree with a teaching certificate for elementary education. I substitute teach in the Brigantine school district.
The future: In September, I'm starting an after-school kids' art camp one day a week from 5 to 7 p.m. Anchor Arts will partner with Bella Dolce bakery for a night of painting and delicious cupcakes and desserts at 7 p.m. Aug. 31. We'll do a Jersey Shore sign painting that's basic and easy.
