Miller Chorney Interiors provides professional design and consulting services, from concept to implementation. I do commercial and residential design.

One of the areas I do is new construction. I’m also finding in this economy a lot of people are spending more time at home than in the office, so a lot of my work is doing a basic consultation, rearranging furniture, picking paint colors, adding some finishing touches, so the time they spend at home is more enjoyable.

I think people have the misconception that interior designers are always expensive. I think people can reuse what they have and add some touches. I pass on designer discounts so people aren’t paying retail, and a lot of times the service ends up saving them money.

Now I want to do more staging. People selling their homes can highlight the home’s strengths and downplay its weaknesses, making their house appeal to the greatest possible pool of buyers. Staged houses sell faster and for more money. And the cost of staging is tax-deductible.

I also offer moving-in services. I help you place your furniture in a new home, picking window treatments and accessories, making it look like your furniture belongs there.

I also do commercial design, such as restaurants and offices.

Entry: I graduated from Drexel Univeristy and its Nesbitt School of Design. First I worked for an architect. Then I joined one of the nation’s top 10 design firms, creating designs for some of the largest casino projects in South Jersey, including Trump and Caesars properties.

The design firm I was working for was based in Las Vegas, and they closed their office here, so I opened my own firm.

The most challenging part of this work is making sure the client is satisfied because you’re combining a lot of things, including their taste and budget.

Future plans: The staging and moving-in services are great tools for real estate agents, and I’m hoping those will add to my business.
