The new Save-A-Lot discount grocery store in Egg Harbor Township will hold its grand opening today, filling a void left by the closure of a nearby Pathmark earlier this year.
Save-A-Lot stores carry fewer lines of name brands, but at discounted prices. The St. Louis-based company opened a store in Atlantic City in May.
The Egg Harbor Township store, which had a soft opening Friday, is located in the Cardiff Plaza Shopping Center, less than a mile from the now-closed Pathmark supermarket.
“I hear people say, ‘I love this store — now I don’t have to go to Shop Rite,’” said manager Diane Lewis.
Lewis said the grand opening will include a special sale, as well as $5 coupons mailed out in advance of the opening.
George Ackerman, a principal with the plaza owners Benbrooke Realty Investment Company, said the Save-A-Lot will serve as an anchor for the shopping center.
“Grocery stores tend to enhance the value of properties by bringing in the right kind of traffic flow,” such as families, he said.
