Two Atlantic City casinos would have closed and 3,000 jobs would be lost without an Internet gambling bill enacted into law, Sen. Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic said Friday at a legislative conference.
"It really is a jobs bill," he said.
Whelan was speaking at the 31st annual Sound Off for South Jersey at Harrah's Resort, which drew about 200 people.
The senator, who was in talks with PokerStars at about the time the company was exploring the purchase of Atlantic Club, said the deal would have fallen apart without the Internet gambling bill.
"Atlantic Club would be closed by Easter," Whelan said.
He also said the sale of Trump Plaza hung on the enactment of Internet gambling.
