Lou Geiger's house in Galloway has 3 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths and 2,500 square feet of living space, but it might be the smallest home in his neighborhood. Then again, that neighborhood happens to be Lost Pine Way, an upscale cul-de-sac off Route 9 where the higher-end home prices approach $1 million. But Lou's one-story colonial was plenty big enough for him and his dog, a friendly pit bull named Petey. "It was a pretty house in a pretty neighborhood - a perfect place for a bachelor and his dog," says Lou.

Built in 1982, the house occupies a 2.7-acre partially wooded lot in the secluded subdivision of about 15 homes. Lou discovered it by chance 12 years ago while visiting the nearby Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.

"I was living in Linwood at the time and was looking for a safe place for my dog," he recalls. "I saw the 'For Sale' sign and took a look. It was the start of a love affair."

With its brick facade, shutters and soaring classical columns framing the front door, the house blends in with neighboring homes. It sits well back from the street and is accessed by a wraparound blacktop driveway that leads to a side-entry three car garage.

Lou made several improvements to the property over the years. He replaced the carpeting that was in most of the rooms with hardwood floors, added ceramic tile floors in the master bath and installed a flagstone rear patio.

"I've also done a lot of landscaping, and it's all organic," he says. "I put in several thousand dollars worth of composting to improve the soil."

Highlighting the floor plan is an enormous great room that includes a family room, dining area and kitchen. It features a gas fireplace set into a floor-to-ceiling brick chimney, a wet bar, and sliding glass doors to a backyard deck. Lou added the ceramic tile counter in the kitchen.

At the front of the house is a large formal dining room and a formal living room with wainscoting, a faux fireplace flanked by a wall of built-in shelving.

At one end of the house is a master suite with a large walk-in close and a private bathroom with a whirlpool tub and a supersized ceramic tiled shower chamber. A skylight positioned above a large planting box next to the tub provides ambiance.

An unfinished basement encompasses nearly the entire footprint of the house. It has cinder block walls and a high ceiling and could easily be converted into living space.

After 12 years in Galloway, Lou has decided to sell the house. His decision was partially influenced by the death last year of his dog.

"Petey was my baby and I really miss him" he says. "This was his house and he enjoyed it every bit as much as I did. "Since Petey died my life has gone in another direction."

That new direction points to Philadelphia, where Lou, who previously worked in the casino transportation business, plans to move when he sells his house.

"It's been a good bachelor pad but there are empty rooms, like the living and dining rooms, that I never even used," he says. "Now I'm just happy to move on."
