Star 69 is an "A-list" cover band that has swept through southern New Jersey's prime-time venues for the past five years. And it doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.
"We are only a three-piece band, but we get to play all the best venues, which is unusual in this scene," says lead vocalist and guitarist Stephen McKnight. "Our musicianship and stage presence are really exciting, and we generally have a lot of room on the stage, so we always take advantage of that."
Even though the band has only existed a few years, its members have been faithful to South Jersey since the group's inception.
"We have played South Jersey right from the start," McKnight begins. "And since we do originals and covers, we've been able to perform both to the crowds down here with a good response. Our cover tunes are very cyclical, as we cover new stuff and classic stuff. From our own collection, 'Before I Met You' is definitely a fan favorite."
Roster: Stephen McKnight, lead vocals, guitar, keyboards; Leon Karpovich, bass, vocals; Kevin Soffera, drums, vocals
Musical Influences: "We really all dig the classics," McKnight says. "The Beatles, Zeppelin and Queen are all up there, as well as Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Paul Rodgers, Social Distortion and Sublime."
Fan Favorite Tunes: You can bank on hearing songs by Muse, Mumford & Sons, Kings Of Leon, Cee Lo Green, Queen and The Who when partying with Star 69.
Latest Album: Star 69's most recent release is called "Blacklist." You can purchase it on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, CD Baby or at live performances.
Where To See Them: "Our current favorite places to play are The Borgata, The House Of Blues, The Ocean Drive and Cabanas," McKnight says. "We also really enjoy The Princeton and Sammy's Beach Bar at Bally's Casino in Atlantic City when they are open for the summer season."
Local Roots: Although the boys of Star 69 consider Philadelphia home, McKnight lives in southern New Jersey, and still considers our home base one of his favorites to play.
