Atlantic City police are investigating an armed robbery Monday night in which a man was pistol-whipped near Stanley Holmes Village.

The 45-year-old city man told police he was visiting a friend in the village, when he went to the store. While leaving the store at about 7:45 p.m., a man pointed a handgun at him and demanded his wallet, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.

Although the man turned over the wallet, he was struck in the head with the gun, he said.

The victim was then kicked and fell to the ground as he tried to run away, the report said.

The robber pointed the gun at the victim, but it malfunctioned and didn’t fire, the report says.

There were four other young males with the robber.

The victim was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, but was unable to provide detailed suspect description or a direction of flight of the males due to his head injury, McMenamin said.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Atlantic City Detective Bureau at 609-347-5766. Information can be called in anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234.
