A tip to the Atlantic County Crime Stoppers tip line led to the arrest of a second suspect in the robbery and stabbing of a store owner on Main Street, Pleasantville police said Monday.
Rashed Almagir, owner of the Pleasantville General Store on the 100 block of North Main Street, was stabbed in the chest during a robbery at about 10 p.m. July 20. One suspect, Owen Weston, 21, of Wesley Avenue in Pleasantville, was arrested shortly after the incident when several witnesses came forward, and was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
Almagir was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City and is expected to recover from his injuries, police said at the time.
At 3:35 a.m. Sunday, a tip led Detective Sgt. James Williams and Detective Richard Henderson to the Newtowne Square area, where a second suspect in the robbery had been seen, police said Monday.
Patrick Carruth, 19, of West Washington Avenue in Pleasantville, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, conspiracy, weapons possession and possession of prescription drugs not prescribed to him, police said. Carruth, who also was wanted on a warrant in an unrelated case, was taken to the Atlantic County Jail on $100,000 bail.
