An Atlantic City man has escaped from a prison work release program in Bridgeton, according to an alert on the state Department of Corrections web site.

Nelson Hook, 29, has been serving a sentence on drug and weapons charges since Sept. 19, 2008. He was due to be released next May.

He had been a prisoner at Southwoods, but was in Kintock, a halfway house, at the time of his escape. Often the last six months of a sentence are served in such a program.

An alert was put out with special attention for Atlantic City, Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles said.
