MAYS LANDING — An Atlantic City man caught bringing a “softball sized” amount of crack cocaine into the resort pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute.

Marquise Bryant, 26, faces a seven-year sentence as part of the plea agreement. He must serve at least three.

The Atlantic City Task Force received information in April that Bryant was traveling from Newark with a large amount of crack cocaine, said Deputy Attorney General Jim Ruberton, who handled the case.

The task force followed him down the Garden State Parkway to the Atlantic City Expressway, where he was arrested April 16, as he entered the city.

He was found with more than 5 ounces of crack cocaine, a first-degree offense. As part of the plea agreement, he admitted to a lesser offense.

Bryant has three previous drug convictions dating to 2006, courthouse records show.

The focus of the task for is to keep drugs and guns off the city’s streets, Ruberton said.

The group includes members of the Atlantic City Police Department, State Police, Division of Criminal Justice, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s and Prosecutor’s offices and the Attorney General’s Office.
