An Atlantic City man wanted in a 2009 killing was arrested Friday, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said.

Andrew Garland, 24, of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, is charged with murder in the killing of Shaddiy Dixon, 20.

Dixon was one of four men shot Aug. 3, 2009, in a parking lot between a residential complex and Moe’s Chicken on the 1300 block of Adriatic Avenue.

Dixon had just come home from prison that morning. He died of multiple gunshot wounds. The other three victims survived.

At the time, then-Prosecutor Ted Housel said the men were among hundreds at a block party gone bad.

An investigation led to a warrant on murder and weapons offenses issued Jan. 9 of this year.

Garland spent a day in December at the Atlantic County jail on traffic violations, records there show. But he had not yet been connected to the killing, and he was released.

On Friday, Garland turned himself in to the Prosecutor’s Office, McClain said.

A flier issued to law enforcement only at the time the warrant was issued, but obtained by The Press of Atlantic City, said Garland should be considered armed and dangerous because a large-caliber weapon used in the shooting of the four men had not been recovered.

Wounded that night were Carlton Williams, 23, Shaheed Little, 20, and an unnamed 17-year-old.

Dixon left behind two toddler sons.

Garland is lodged in the Atlantic County jail on $1 million cash bail.

He is expected to make his first court appearance Monday before Superior Court Judge Michael Donio.
