Atlantic City police say another victim has come forward saying an Egg Harbor Township man accused in two sexual assaults also raped her.
Hiten A. Patel, 34, of the township's Cardiff section, was previously charged with numerous counts including aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping in two incidents, including the aggravated sexual assault of a woman Aug. 2, who he allegedly attacked after ordering her into his car claiming to be a detective.
Police added the charges unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in that case, Sgt Monica McMenamin said in a news release.
Since Patel's arrest, a 26-year-old woman came forward and told police that on or about June 7, Patel took her to a secluded location in Atlantic City, claiming to be a police officer and threatening her with a handgun. She said that Patel sexually assaulted her.
In this incident, Patel is charged with criminal restraint, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault with a weapon, impersonating a police officer, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
Patel has been in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since his arrest Aug. 2. His bail is $1 million full cash.
Police believe at least five other similar incidents that have been previously reported, and possibly more in which the victims have not yet come forward. He is believed to be targeting prostitutes.
Anyone who may have been a victim of a similar assault is urged to come forward.
Detective Al Herbert is leading the investigation and can be reached at the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 609-347-5766.
