Atlantic City police arrested a man Thursday afternoon who allegedly tried to abduct a woman and bit her right ear.

Walter French, 26, of Egg Harbor Township, was charged with assault, criminal sexual contact, aggravated assault on police, obstruction, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said. He was transported to the Atlantic County jail on $25,000 bail.

Atlantic City police Officer Michelle Graham was called to Pennsylvania and Arctic avenues at 11:46 a.m. by several people who told the officer that French had attempted to forcibly remove a woman from a convenience store, police said.

Graham saw French a short distance away grabbing the victim’s genitals, touching and aggressively holding onto the woman, police said.

The woman tried to pull away but was unable. Graham pulled her gun on French and ordered him to stop, but he did not comply, police said.

Additional officers arrived at the scene, but French — who police said “appeared to be on an unknown substance” — refused to cooperate. Officers eventually managed to put French into a patrol car, but he continued to fight them, police said, noting he spit and kicked his legs once inside the vehicle.

The 37-year-old victim from Atlantic City told officers that French bit her ear. She was treated at and released from AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus.
