Atlantic City police said they arrested a man destroying a residence and recovered a loaded handgun this morning.
Police were called to 101 Boardwalk for an assault in progress, when they learned that the suspect was inside destroying things with a sledgehammer, Lt. Ed Brady said.
The officers were told there was also a handgun inside, so Sgt. Robert Dodson, along with Officers Michael Mason, Michael Gavin, Julie Cash, James Eckert, Timothy Rose, Chris McMahon and Brian McDevitt, evacuated the area.
The suspect — later found to be Eric Jones, 42 — was ordered to surrender and came out a short time later, Brady said.
The officers also recovered a .45 caliber handgun loaded with nine hollow-point bullets.
Jones was charged with domestic violence assault and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. His bail is set at $2,500.
