The Atlantic City Police Department was inspected Sunday and Monday for accreditation for the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.

The department said in a release that assessors from the organization surveyed the department’s equipment and criteria for accreditation.

In order to get accreditation the department must lay out professional objectives and analyze how existing operations can be adapted to meet these objectives. The assessors then verify these standards have been successfully implemented.

“Accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective,” the department said.

A decision to grant the department accreditation could be announced in the spring.
