Atlantic City police say a man was shot dead shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday at a home on the 300 block of North North Carolina Avenue.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at the home, where they found the unidentified victim, Capt. Frank Brennan said, adding that the man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus in Atlantic City.

No arrests had been made as of late Thursday, and Brennan did not identify any suspects.

"We're working on many different reports right now and tracking down all leads," he said.

Police Sgt. Angelo Maimone confirmed that the victim died but said that any other information must come from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

It was the fourth homicide in the resort this year.

Marline Keyes, 40, who was a few blocks away at the time of the incident, said he dropped to the ground after hearing four gunshots.

"It's getting crazy here. It makes people like me, who have lived here all my life, want to leave," Keyes said. "For real, it's how you survive."
