An off-duty Atlantic City police detective traveling on a motorcycle was seriously injured Sunday when he swerved to avoid a car that entered his path.

The accident occurred about 4:45 p.m eastbound on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township, where Detective Michael Braxton was participating in an organized ride with several friends, many of whom are also Atlantic City police officers, Atlantic City police Sgt. Monica McMenamin said in a written statement.

A small, two-door Honda changed lanes into Braxton’s path, which forced him to make an evasive maneuver that resulted in Braxton abandoning the motorcycle in the road, McMenamin said.
