Firefighters responded to the scene and met with a resident who said he saw flames and poured water on it to control the blaze. Authorities used a fire extinguisher and water to control the fire along the bulkhead and surrounding dune grass, the department said.

After that they began dig around the bulkhead, and found more fire below the sand line.

Firefighters continued to wet down the entire area of the bulkhead, digging down until there was no longer any flame damage visible, as well as checked up and down along the bulkhead line to make sure there was no sign of any other fire anywhere else.
