Two women were nabbed on the beach in Brigantine and charged with stealing beach badges, phones, wallets and purses from beach goers.

Lt. Jim Bennett said that a number of thefts were reported mid-afternoon, beginning at the 16th Street South Beach and continuing south.

“One of the victims was able to provide a pretty accurate description,” Bennett said, “and we were able to positively ID them very quickly.”

Shannon Grogg and Jennifer Guadagno, both 38, of Collings Lakes, were arrested by Lt. Rob Rubino and Off. Sean O’Neill at the 21st Street South beach, Bennett said. All stolen items were retrieved, and Grogg was charged with theft and receiving stolen property and Guadagno — no relation to Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, said Bennett — was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and theft of beach tags.

The two were released on summons, Bennett said.
