Brigantine police are seeking public comment as part of the department’s reaccreditation process.

As part of the process, assessors will examine the department’s policies and procedures on Sunday to ensure its compliance with 100 standards. The department was first granted accreditation status by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police in 2008.

Chief John E. Stone said accreditation “results in greater accountability,” which will reduce liability exposure, help defend against civil lawsuits and increase confidence in the agency’s operations.

The voluntary process also includes input from employees and the general public, in addition to the on-site assessment.
