Gov. Chris Christie will be in Atlantic City this afternoon when Resorts Casino Hotel formally announces plans for an expansion project based on Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville franchise.
The news conference, which will take place at 2 p.m. on the Boardwalk outside of Resorts, will announce plans for a major project that will be a first for Atlantic City and the East Coast, according to a release.
Plans for the expansion surfaced publicly last month after Resorts applied for a state permit to rebuild Steeplechase Pier and include a Margaritaville Landshark Bar & Grill.
Last week, it became apparent that the island-themed franchise will spill over into the casino as project architects presented plans to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority for a Margaritaville Cafe and a Landshark Bar inside Resorts.
The casino has not commented publicly on any specific plans for the project, deferring comment until today’s news conference.
Resorts rebranded itself a year ago with a Roaring ’20s theme intended to capitalize on the success of HBO’s hit series “Boardwalk Empire.” The casino has not yet addressed how the themes might be melded together.
