The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two elderly women from a cruise ship off the coast on Tuesday.

The two women, ages 73 and 81, suffered separate medical emergencies while on a cruise ship 80 miles southeast of Atlantic City.

The cruise ship Carnival Splendor contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 10:30 p.m. and two helicopter crews from Atlantic City were dispatched to the scene.

The women were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and were reported in critical condition.

“The excellent teamwork of everyone involved allowed for two safe, successful patient transfers,” said Lt. Cmdr. Nelson Brandt, a pilot from one of the helicopter crews. “The cruise ship personnel were very professional, and the AtlantiCare staff was very cooperative and were waiting to receive the two women when we arrived. There was great cooperation all around.”
