PLEASANTVILLE — A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant is scheduled to open on the Black Horse Pike in Pleasantville sometime this week, a company official said.

Popeyes markets itself as an eatery with a Louisiana-inspired menu that includes chicken, seafood and other items.

Workers were readying the approximately 3,000-square-foot chain restaurant, which is newly constructed, at 555 Black Horse Pike, said Syed Iqbal, director of operations for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

Iqbal said the restaurant is expected to open sometime between today and Friday. The eatery, which is a franchise owned by Parikh Network, is hiring about 55 people to work there, including cooks and cashiers, he said.

Popeyes, a division of AFC Enterprises Inc., has nearly 2,000 restaurants throughout the country and internationally. The chain lists Atlantic City and Vineland as other area locations.

In 2010, Popeyes opened 106 new restaurants and closed 67 underperforming ones, according to AFC’s annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
