Atlantic City resident Karen Jones wants her fellow city residents to bond together Friday to help overcome recent tragic events.

Jones is organizing a community gathering from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at Horace Bryant Park, Horace J. Bryant Jr. Drive and Ohio Avenue, Atlantic City.

Jones said she has invited local officials, ministers, musicians and residents to the event.

Jones noted violence that has happened recently, including Hurricane Sandy, a city police officer shooting an 18-year-old city man last weekend and the school shootings in Newtown, Conn. Jones will provide hearts with the names of all the Newtown victims at the event.

“It’s an opportunity for everyone to heal and reflect,” she said. “We’ve been focusing on a lot of things. We need a lot of healing.”

The event has a rain date of Jan. 3.
