A man dressed in the store’s uniform was arrested while in the process of robbing the Pleasantville Family Dollar Store Tuesday night, police said.

Pleasantville police responded to a call around 10:30 p.m., after the store was closed for the night, reporting a robbery was in progress. When the first detective arrived, the suspect, Rashiff Carson, 24, of Atlantic City, waved off the officer, as if to indicate the store was closed, police said.

Subsequently, another officer showed up in uniform and the male ran toward the back of the store, police said.

At this point the manager was able to open the door to let the officers in, police said.

Detectives are investigating if Carson was working at the time or returned to commit the robbery, police said. He was an employee of the dollar store’s Atlantic City location but was working in the Pleasantville store because of a manpower shortage.

Carson was charged with armed robbery and other related offenses, and bail was set at $100,000 cash, police said.
