The Atlantic City Business and Community Association will hold a first-of-a-kind fundraiser by hosting an end-of-summer garden party that is open to the whole community.
The potluck event, to take place rain or shine this Saturday, will be held at the home of ACBCA President Audrey Hart in the Venice Park section of the resort.
"We are really excited about this," said Hart, who added that the event has been in the planning stages all summer.
All indications are for a good turnout, and there is still plenty of time to RSVP, she said. The daylong event will feature family-friendly activites with karaoke and plenty of old-fashioned games for all ages.
"There will be card games going on as well as board games like chess, checkers and Monopoly. Everything will be geared to getting to know each other while relaxing and having fun," said Hart.
She has a few surprises in store for guests, as well.
For the past two weeks three items - a Chinese vase, an antique lamp and a table lamp - have been advertised in the window of Hart's thrift shop as part of the ACBA's fundraiser auction. Bids will remain open until the day of the garden party when the names of the winners will be announced at 6 p.m.
There will be special guests who will drop by, and Hart said announcements will be made for some planned upcoming events.
"I don't want to give anything away. All I can say is there will be some exciting plans revealed and I think everyone will be enthusiastic about things to come," she said.
Hart said she has been building the ACBCA to become a viable community assistance association. Its mission is to make Atlantic City a more prosperous place to live.
"We are calling on all those who really care about the future of our children and our great city," said Hart, who sees the role of the ACBCA expanding. "For our economic survival, we need to buy local and support local."
The organization conducts charitable drives throughout the year, including a sneaker campaign to benefit the homeless and a Christmas stocking drive for children.
A donation of $12 for adults, $1 for children is asked to attend the garden party. The donation includes a one-year membership to ACBCA.
