Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Juan Torres recently deployed to the U.S. Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet Area of Operations, while assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush.
The George H.W. Bush is the flagship for the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group and is scheduled to conduct operations in the areas including the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The deployment is a part of an ongoing rotation of U.S. forces supporting maritime security operations in international waters around the globe. Torres and about 6,000 other sailors have spent the past year conducting training and certification exercises for a variety of missions, from counter-piracy and ground support operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
Torres is the son of Milagros Gonzalez, of Pleasantville, and is a 2004 graduate of Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing.
Chatman graduates from basic
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Tony L. Chatman graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive eight-week program that included military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Chatman is the son of Valerie Chatman, of Atlantic City. He is a 2006 graduate of Pleasantville High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in 2010 from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Galloway Township.
